Andrew Vulcan was born to a schoolteacher in Chicago. Andrew didn’t have a lot of money and never knew his dad, but he was extremely smart. A love of Legos at four turned into a skill with programming at six. At nine he had the home computer running faster than any in Chicago. While most teenagers were collecting sports jerseys or trading cards, he was collecting doctorates. At the age of 18, he started his own company: Vulcan Technologies. Before he was 25, he beat out Mark Zuckerberg as the World’s Youngest Billionaire, having created a company that worked on the advancement of all forms of technology from weaponry to smartphones.

Of course, Andrew quickly found out that his genius and success were part of the family when Chicago was attacked….by a minotaur. The intervention of the military was able to stop the creature, but not before it destroyed a good chunk of the city. When Andrew returned to his lab, determined to find a way to keep such things from happening again, he was greeted by an ugly man with a cane who claimed to be his father. The man claimed two things: that he was Hephaestus, the Greek god of the Forge and that he was Andrew’s father. He explained that the hydra attack on Chicago was the work of Andrew’s uncle Ares, the God of War. Ares had grown bored with the wars that humans waged on their own and had released some of the most deadly beasts from Tartarus to become part of his new ‘army’. Andrew barely waited for his father to finish talking before he started to plan. He used all his latest tech to design a marvel of weapons technology: a suit outfitted with a small arsenal. And when a hydra appeared a few months later and attacked LA, Andrew was able to stop them with minimal damage to the city.

Taking his father’s name as an alter ego, Hephaestus had made his debut in the superhero community. Thanks to the assistance of his secretary, Alexis DeMilo, he was able to maintain his company and his Steve Jobs-esque persona while saving the world countless times. However, Ares was always trying to incite chaos, either by releasing monsters or stealing Vulcan Technologies state of the art weaponry.
